Is John Lasman doubting his knowledge of Roof tiles?

by Lasman Press Unit | 4th November, 2025 | Uncategorised

It started like any other normal enquiry. The client needed a roof retiled.

An onsite meeting was arranged with the client and his architect.

That’s when the challenge started. John Lasman has been in the building trade for a long time, re-slated many roofs with many different tiles. The plans showed a roof structure with an extremely low pitch.

Consequently when the architect showed him the tile he wished to use, John had to admit he was stumped! He confessed he had never seen such a tile and way of fixing.

Of course the challenge was accepted with John promising to research this new tile and return with a fully detailed plan of attack for this project.

The tile, called Erlus, was manufactured in Germany with a complex way of fixing. This is where John’s diligence came to the fore – part of his research involved trials in the workshop with the tile on a mock-up of the roof.

The result was a project that ran smoothly on time and on budget!

So, not only a first for Lasman’s but a first use of the tile in Scotland, indeed in the UK! No wonder John didn’t recognise it!
