Something fishy here!
by John Lasman | 24th September, 2025 | Uncategorised

The things we learn from John Lasman. John is far from the stereotypical builder. His historical knowledge of the “wee county” is vast, and we have yet to catch him out with a question about the area. Not known for an interest in fishing, our resident angler thought he would have him beat when he asked John about the kind of fish that are in the Devon. Quick as a flash John replied, “Well, actually, the first salmon are now entering the estuary at Cambus before running up-river to their gravelly spawning beds. Salmon in the Devon are traditionally late runners, with most not entering the river until September or October.”
A tight-lipped, smiling John later revealed that Lasman’s were nearing completion on a new natural sandstone walling on the edge of the river Devon just below the salmon leap, this will allow the public safe access to view the weir and salmon leaping.
